In addition to fashion, interior design is a passion of mine. My home is the first place where I began developing my style. My style has always been a mix of European classic with modern touches. Over time, several of my friends asked me to help them curate their own home interiors, and that inspired me to turn my passion into a business.
I love to travel and have been fortunate to see many wonderful places. Travel has allowed me to develop my sense of interior style and spacing. I like to create spaces where antiques are mixed with modern furniture and art, and where textures and fabrics play a key role.
When I curate a space for a client, my goal is to use pieces that the client has and adding new pieces if necessary to create a space that has order and balance. To me, creating a timeless space means paring away unnecessary details in order to achieve balance. Breathing life into the interiors with color, making the most of natural light, making the best use of the space, giving intimacy to large spaces and also giving the illusion of extra space when needed. I love that every space and client is a unique challenge.
A client asked me to help with a renovation of their Myers Park restaurant in Charlotte, North Carolina. The owners wanted to update the space with a more modern, clean atmosphere while keeping the existing Italian murals. We selected paint colors that enhanced the art and gave the space a softer and more elegant feel. In order to better utilize the space and give the interior a level of European sophistication, I went with a tufted cream leather banquette. To help create a sense of space, we removed the original overhead lighting fixtures and replaced them with recessed lighting and sconces.
Here I helped a client with several rooms in her lake house at Uwharrie Point. I chose furniture and designed draperies for her main living area, and was able to work this into some of the owner’s existing pieces. I mirrored a niche in her foyer and was able to find a hunt board and layered it with beautiful lamps and an antique sterling silver samovar. Upon entering, I wanted to evoke the feel of an English country house, in keeping with the architectural style of the dwelling. One of of my favorite parts of the design process is following through with the details. On this project, we found some interesting original artwork and antique mirrors and used them to create an environment of elegance and serenity.
